WaterShield™ Technology Protection:
Exclusive WaterShield™ Technology is a unique water-resistant process that enables the Deer and Elk Chow pellets to repel moisture. This helps to significantly reduce pellet waste and labor commonly associated with rain, humidity and damp feeding conditions. It is safe, doesn’t affect palatability, and ensures high consumption of AntlerMax Technology. In addition, WaterShield Technology enhances the flowability of Deer and Elk Chow pellets through gravity and broadcast feeders. This helps reduce the chance of deer and elk going without feed because of a clogged feeder. Feeding Deer Chow with WaterShield can help save you money during wet conditions because of reduced pellet waste and less labor scooping out wet mushy feed. |

Feeding Corn
If you wish to use corn in your feeding program, you can blend 75% Purina High Protein Deer Checker with 25% corn to produce a 17% protein diet. Blending 50% corn will give you a 14% protein diet. It is not recommended that you free choice feed this ration mix as deer to tend to over-consume and sort out feed of choice.
Apple Flavored Deer Blocks
Highly palatable deer blocks containing 6% protein should be fed year round. They are easy to sue, long lasting and more complete than whole grains. They should be buried and covered with one inch of dirt. This mask the human smell and allows the box to deteriorate. The deer can smell the block and will dig for the block.
Purina Game Management Mineral
A loose mineral containing a balance of calcium, phosphorus and other essential minerals should be fed free-choice to help balance the nutritional needs of animals throughout the year. This mineral contains 12% calcium and 12% phosphorus and high levels of copper, zinc and other essential trace minerals critical for proper bone development in young fawns and antler growth in bucks.
How to Establish a Mineral/Salt Lick |
Locate your salt lick 25-30 feet to the side of your food plot. Dig out a hole in the ground about 36″ wide and 18″ deep. Take about 1/3 of the soil and mix thoroughly with one 25 lb. bag of RACKMASTER loose mineral/salt mix. Put this mixture in the hole. This should fill the hole up to about 5″ from the former ground level. |
Next, open your mineral block and place it on top of the mixture of dirt, sinking it into the dirt until only about 1/2-2/3 of the block is exposed. Dispose of dirt you have left by moving it from the area. The ingredients contained in your newly established mineral/salt lick will constantly attract deer to your area and should aid in antler growth when used during the critical antler development period in the Spring and Summer months. |
Watch your lick carefully. Check it at least monthly. When the deer begin to use the lick you should replace the mineral/salt block when it is depleted. IMPORTANT – check the depth of your RACKMASTER mineral/salt lick. Never let the level of the block go below 8″ from original ground level. When this occurs, you should take another bag of you mineral/salt mixture and thoroughly mix it with the remaining mineral/salt in your lick using about 10% dirt in the mixture to bring the mixture back to the level of 6″ below the original ground level. |

The Law
It is not illegal to feed wildlife but it is illegal to feed during hunting season in Virginia and to hunt over a feeding area. Check with your local game warden for the regulations in your county.
